World Premiere

SEASON ONE / EPISODE ONE

We aired our first episode in December of 2012.  The launch date had been in the books for months, we were hesitant to go live as news of the great Pandit Ravi Shankar's passing the day before was all over the news. After talking it over, we moved forward, dedicating our maiden voyage to Ravi-ji and the music he shared. Our first episode features the great sitar maestros of the Vishnupur style, Pandit Manilal Nag and his daughter, Mita Nag.

MITA NAG - SITAR / UDAY KUMAR - TABLA

For us, a typical day in Kolkata consists of music lessons in the morning, running around the streets with video cameras in the afternoon and at night, checking out one, two, maybe three of the many concerts taking place throughout the city. There's is plenty of chai tea in between to keep us going. Here is a full length performance we shot one afternoon with our close friends and musical mentors.

One of the leading female sitar players in India, Mita claims her role as torch bearer of the sitar style of the Vishnupur Gharana championed by both her father Pandit Manilal Nag and grandfather, Gokul Nag.

Uday Kumar is a senior disciple of the great tabla maestro Ustad Shabbir Nisar of Hyderabad, India, guardian the rarest and most historic tabla compositions stewarded by his father, the great Tabla Nawaz Ustad Shaik Dawood Khan Saab.
